Blog post #5 - Commanding Attention
Out of all of the different "attention-getting" strategies I tried in class today, I think I will use the question method in Writing project #1. I will do this because I find that using a question really intrigues people into wanting to read what else you have to say, especially when they can relate to what you're asking. Here are two different versions of my introduction that I plan on using for the rough draft.
Have you ever felt like you were assigned your sport at birth? When I was around 5 years old, my dad started getting me into the game of golf. He had already gotten my brother Cole, who is a year older than me into it, so now it was my turn. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in my country club’s golf team where we would, like clockwork, practice every Tuesday at 7:00am in the summers. I remember meeting my earliest friends by doing so, making nicknames with my coaches that will last forever, and cherishing the skill I have somewhat mastered; that is the game of golf.
Have you ever felt like you were assigned a sport at birth? When I was around five years old, I became heavily introduced into the game of golf by my father. He had played golf his entire life, and became a member at a very respectable country club, where I went on to learn how to play for the next eight years. Now I’m not sure why my dad insisted that my brother and I learn how to play golf, but now I can say it is something I am most thankful for. We used to get up at around 7:00am every Tuesday morning in the summer to go play a couple holes with our club. I made so many friends, memories, and accomplishments during my time there.
